Edo: Dr. Tony Aziegbemi has not resigned, news of his resignation untrue and a hoax, says Nehikhare

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in edo state has debunked rumours making the rounds that the state party chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi has resigned. According to the state publicity secretary Chris Osa Nehikhare, this story is fake as the state chairman of the PDP still remains.

This he made known while briefing journalists on Friday, September 11 in the state capital Benin city. Nehikhare told journalists that the fake news was being disemminated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. He said it is “their last-minute and desperate efforts to save an unpopular candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, from quitting the gubernatorial race which the party is set to lose.”

He further said ““With just a week to the September 19 election, and worried by the lack of acceptance of its candidate, the APC has resorted to desperate and unconventional campaign tactics; fake news, deceit and falsehood, to attempt to sway Edo voters,”

It is exactly one week to the polls in the state and the heat of campaign is at its peak which is why it is normal to have such controversies and more owing to the fact that a lot is at stake come September 19. A media aide to governor Godwin Obaseki had earlier said that the APC was plotting controversies so as to ensure the postponement of the scheduled elections.

All attention will be shifted to the state come September 19 as two men who have a point to prove will go head to head but only one surely will emerge victorious and take his place as governor of the city of ancient civilization.
